Parent Back to School Letter

Lemira Elementary School will begin its  H. A. P. P. Y. (Having a Positive Productive Year)  2020-21 school year with a school-wide Virtual Orientation program for students and parents on August 25th at 11:00 am.  A virtual “Meet the Teacher” event will be held and posted online August 26th (PK & Kindergarten-10:00 am; First Grade-11:00 am; Second Grade-1:00 pm; Third Grade-2:00 pm); and August 27th (Fourth Grade-10:00 pm; Fifth Grade-11:00 pm).

Chromebook and Textbooks Distribution(August 24, 2020)

Kindergarten and First grade students will be able to pick up their Chromebooks and textbooks on Monday, August 24, 2020 from 8:30 am – 11:30 am, and Chromebook and textbooks distribution to new students, and Chromebook repairs/trade-out and textbooks distribution for returning students will be from 12:30 pm-3:30 pm under the car pickup breezeway.

We will begin our first day of school with virtual learning on August 28th. Pre-School students will start September 4th. Students will continue to use their school district issued Chromebooks for instructional assignments and activities. As a reminder, when the district resumes face-to-face instruction, Lemira’s students are expected to adhere to the Lemira’s uniform dress attire listed on the website.

School hours are 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., and office hours are 7:15 a.m.-3:30 p.m.  Please continue to review the SSD and Lemira website (lme.sumterschools.net) for additional information regarding meal distribution.

Face-to-Face Drop-off/Pick-up Procedures:

All students must be dropped off in the morning under the car pickup breezeway and  cars will exit on the Boulevard Road. Parents are reminded not to drop students off before 6:50 a.m.  For students’ safety, parents are reminded not to drop their child or children off in the grassy area across the street from the school on Fulton Street.  During pick-up, all car riders will be dismissed through the gate under the breezeway using their car number.  Each student will be provided numbered car tags and book bag tags.  For safety reasons, parents will not be allowed to leave their cars and walk-up to the car pick-up gate to retrieve children, and students will not be permitted to cross Fulton Street to walk to their rides. All students must be picked up by 2:45.

How can my child get a district-issued Chromebook?
• Sumter School District’s One-to-Global initiative provides a technology device for each student in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade.
• Students and parents without a district-issued Chromebook may check one out during scheduled dates at their child’s home school.
• Students who are having issues with technology will be provided with avenues to contact the school media specialist or Chromebook manager for technical support. This will include issues with internet, applications, software, and technology tools.

How do I obtain access to Wi-Fi?

In an effort to prepare for online instruction, Sumter School District would like to reach out to families who do not have access to the Internet. To be eligible for a wireless hotspot you must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a student in the household;
  • Not have internet;
  • Have a household income at or below 250% of federal poverty;
  • Need internet for educational purposes in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

We are continuing to enforce our uniform policy for the 2020-2021 school year. Your child will be expected to wear his/her uniform when we return to learning in school. Parents will be contacted and asked to bring replacement clothes for students out of uniform.

Meal Distribution Update 9.9.2020

Effective Wednesday, September 9, 2020 Lemira will serve as a district food distribution site.  Meals can be picked up between 9:00am-12:00 noon on Wednesdays from the busport breeze way on  Missouri street.

Meal cards will be accepted for 5 breakfast meals and 5 lunch meals on Wednesdays. Cards for the following week’s meal distribution will be issued every Wednesday at Lemira based on the registration form. The color of the card will change each week.  Only Sumter School District students will be able to obtain meals under the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) at no cost.

If students/parents/guardians do not have their meal cards when they arrive to pick up meals, the designated food service employee at the school site will ask for the student’s name, school, and lunch number.  After verifying the student‘s information the student will be allowed to receive meals.

Registration will be accepted on site for all unregistered students.

Meal Distribution 9.2.2020

Beginning Wednesday, September 2, 2020, the weekly distribution of meals will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 12 p.m. at the following locations: Crestwood High School, Hillcrest Middle School, Sumter High School, Cherryvale Elementary School, Crosswell Drive Elementary School, Chestnut Oaks Middle School, Willow Drive Elementary School, R.E. Davis College Preparatory Academy, Pocalla Springs Elementary School, Manchester Elementary School, Rafting Creek Elementary School, Bates Middle School, Oakland Primary School, Alice Drive Middle School, Kingsbury Elementary School, and Wilder Elementary School.

Each Wednesday, students will receive breakfast and lunch for the entire week. To ensure food safety, please make sure meals are properly stored and refrigerated. When the parent/guardian or student picks up the meals, please provide the student’s name, student’s lunch number, and the name of the school the student attends.

Meals will also be delivered to specific areas of the community each Wednesday according to the following schedule:
