Welcome to another great school year at Lemira Elementary School. I am excited about the implementation of the South Carolina comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program model. The comprehensive program is designed to promote academic/educational, personal/social, and career development. As an integral part of the K-12 school program, guidance and counseling builds a foundation for learning based on positive attitudes toward school and learning, personal responsibility, respect for self and others and knowledge of skills for employment.
Students will receive classroom guidance bi-weekly for 30 minutes. The guidance curriculum will include an emphasis on character education, bullying prevention, study skills, and careers. Small group counseling will be offered this year on a variety of topics including: friendship, self-esteem, grief, changing family, and anger management. Parents, teachers, administration, or staff can refer a student they feel would benefit from small group counseling. Parent notification and permission will be obtained before a student participates in a small group. Individual counseling in the elementary school is short-term. If the student is in need of additional mental health services, referrals will be made.
A positive relationship between school and home fosters the academic, social and emotional growth of children. Please feel free to contact me at 803-775-0658.
